During the lesson, young people make the acquaintance of the poems of Imants Ziedonis and other contemporary authors, explore their writing techniques and interpretations. The pupils discuss what poetry is, what is its role today and in the lives of young people, get to know how poetry can be conveyed to the audience – through music, dance and other forms of art. At the conclusion, pupils create their own poems, illustrations thereof, and present them in a poetry reading to their classmates.

Ziedonis. Places. Self-documenting

During the lesson, the pupils are invited to put themselves in the shoes of the tourism agency employees and create a guide to the places in Latvia that were once visited and documented by Imants Ziedonis. Young people become acquainted with the literary heritage of I. Ziedonis – fragments of documentary prose writings from the books Leišmalīte, Tik un tā, Kurzemīte and Tutepatās, the places and personalities therein. Pupils, inspired by Ziedonis, create a touristic itinerary and present their creative efforts in various audiovisual forms – photography, video, TV advertising and otherwise.

The lesson is based on family encyclopaedia by Imants Ziedonis Es, cilvēks, pasaulē [Me, a human being in the world] and the values described therein. The pupils perform tasks in teams, familiarize themselves with fragments of the book, reflect on the values expressed in it – personality and its traits, the collective and living creatures. The pupils perform six tasks, and each of these tasks symbolizes a world of a kind – the world of creatures, the world of people, the class collective, the state, the world of responsibility and values. At the end, each pupil creates his or her artwork, and the pupils all together set up an exhibition in contemporary form on a large-sized globe.
